ASLP-IC Progresses to the Next Phase

January 14, 2022

The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) reached another milestone this week when the ASLP-IC Commission held its inaugural meeting. Delegates adopted Commission bylaws, committees were formed, and a transition timeline was developed. Plans are underway for a special meeting in the spring and the first annual meeting in late summer to continue the process of operationalizing compact, including developing the database to interface with state licensing boards. Privileges to practice are expected to begin issuing in 2023.

Congratulations to those who were voted to serve on the Executive Committee:

  • Chair: Larry Molt, audiologist, Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology (ASHA member)
  • Vice-Chair: Claire Covert-ByBee, program manager, Nebraska Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Licensing
  • Treasurer: Glenn Waguespack, audiologist, Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ASHA member)
  • Secretary: Nicole Jeffcoate, SLP, North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ASHA member)
  • At-Large Members:
    • Vickie Pullins, SLP, West Virginia Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology (ASHA member)
    • Daphne Washington, SLP, Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ASHA member)
    • Tammy Brown, audiologist, Ohio Speech and Hearing Professionals Board (ASHA member)

To date, 15 states have adopted the ASLP-IC. ASHA’s advocacy to promote adoption by additional states continues. Legislation is pending in Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Vermont, and Washington, and we expect more states to introduce legislation as the state legislatures are starting their 2022 sessions.
