Getting Ahead of the AI Curve in Health Professions Education

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications including language-processing models (e.g., ChatGPT) will continue to improve, expand, and impact the future of learning and work. Generative AI will be embraced by business and industry in ways that will enhance efficiency and accuracy in services. So, our learners, as they pursue careers, will do so in an AI-rich environment. Understanding that advances in technology are rarely, if ever, denied by society, we must confront how to respond and incorporate new technologies in constructive ways that support learning and workforce preparation. It is incumbent upon educators to ensure that our learners have experience with AI technologies as well as develop effective practices for their optimal use. Our keynote speaker, Sumitrajit Dhar, will share their perspectives on the application of emerging AI technologies in higher education and health professions education. They will provide insight on how disciplines in higher education may examine the changing nature of the workforce that awaits their learners and adapt instruction and assessment accordingly to be useful and appropriate in today’s environment.

  • Sumitrajit Dhar, PhD, CCC-A, Northwestern University

Panelists

  • Radhika Arvamudhan PhD, CCC-A, Salus University
  • Jennifer Friberg, PhD, CCC-SLP, Illinois State University
  • Julie Liss, PhD, CCC-SLP, Arizona State University
