Self-efficacy is a person’s belief in their ability to complete a task or achieve a goal. Over the years, self-efficacy has been gaining traction as a predictor of behavioral change and self-care management in health-related and educational research. It has been repeatedly demonstrated that high self-efficacy can positively influence recovery immediately following a variety of medical events as well as management of chronic medical conditions. On the professional front, self-efficacy has been proven to positively affect job satisfaction, supervision and mentorship of graduate clinicians, confidence with application of evidence-based practice and overall job performance. Join Nicole Link, a medical SLP in the IRF setting, as she discusses the numerous ways that SLPs can utilize self-efficacy interventions to support their patients throughout their recovery process as well as self-efficacy strategies to enhance their own clinical practice.
