The purpose of this conference is to explore, develop and extend paradigms for the preparation of successful speech-language pathologists of the future.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorder, the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and the Council For Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology are inviting programs that educate speech-language pathologists to participate in a 3-day conference to explore, develop and extend paradigms for the preparation of successful speech-language pathologists of the future. The participants will be limited to 120 educators and practitioners who will work together to address the following questions:
1) What are the historical, current and emerging contexts, challenges, and opportunities impacting the evolving profession of speech-language pathology?
2) What are the characteristics of the speech-language pathology professional that will enable her/him to work effectively within the changed contexts, to meet the emerging challenges, and to realize the emerging opportunities?
3) What should be the conceptual elements of educational programs that will ensure that speech-language pathologists are optimally prepared for and capable of meeting these evolving contexts, challenges, and opportunities?
Program directors are encouraged to attend this conference or to select a clinic director/coordinator or other faculty member who is knowledgeable and engaged in decision making about the preparation of speech-language pathologists. To achieve the goal of a conference that includes a diverse representation of educators, programs are invited to submit an application to participate. Participant selection will be based on applicants that meet criteria of diversity of geography, program size, degree levels offered, public versus private institutions, and student diversity.
The conference will be held February 1 through 4 in New Orleans, LA. A summary of the program agenda follows for your perusal. The registration fee is $120 and will be due upon application acceptance. The deadline for applications is October 24, 2006. Notification of acceptance will be provided by November 10, 2006.
